Phantom Blade Zero arrives on October 29, 2026, after years of impressive trailers and a late change to its release schedule. S-Game's martial-arts action RPG is launching for PlayStation 5 and PC, with an original setting, demanding sword fights and an unusual way of collecting weapons.
If you have only seen the clips of Soul cutting through groups of enemies, there is more to understand before starting. This is not an open-world game built around clearing map icons, and it is not simply another Soulslike with a faster character. S-Game has taken ideas from several action genres and placed them inside a dark, connected martial-arts world called the Wulin.
Phantom Blade Zero release date and platforms
The official launch date is October 29, 2026. PlayStation's developer announcement noted that some regions, including the United States, could access the release on October 28 because of regional timing. The game has been announced for PS5 and PC, with Steam and Epic Games Store listed among the PC storefronts.
There are Standard and Deluxe editions. Both include the full game; the Deluxe edition adds two exclusive outfits, a digital artbook and a soundtrack. S-Game also advertised pre-order early unlocks for a Treasure Basin accessory and Legacy outfit, while noting that those items can be earned through normal progression. Check your local storefront for the actual price rather than converting a foreign listing into rupees.
Phantom Blade Zero PC requirements
The developer has published clear minimum and recommended hardware targets. Both tiers require Windows 10 or 11, 16GB RAM, DirectX 12 and an SSD. The important difference is the graphics card and expected performance.
Minimum: Intel Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600, paired with a GTX 1660 6GB or RX 5500 XT 8GB. S-Game targets 1080p at 30fps with upscaling enabled.
Recommended: Intel Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X, with an RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or RX 6700 XT 12GB. The published target is 1440p at 60fps, again using upscaling. These are developer targets, not independent performance benchmarks.
S-Game separately lists an RTX 5060 for recommended ray tracing at 1080p/60fps and RTX 5080 for 4K/60fps path tracing, both with upscaling. Owners of an ordinary RTX 3060 should not confuse it with the more powerful RTX 3060 Ti in the recommended tier.

How the combat works
Soul fights with two equipped main weapons. Basic attacks and stronger strikes create combinations, but learning when to defend is just as important as attacking. Blocking drains a resource called Sha-Chi. A poorly timed defence can leave Soul staggered; a good parry or dodge can weaken an opponent instead.
Switching between main weapons helps restore Sha-Chi and keep a combo moving. Attacking also builds Sha-Chi Essence, which powers a heavier strike called Power Surge. The result is a system that encourages players to keep fighting rather than spending an entire encounter waiting for one safe opening.
S-Game has shown more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges. Not every tool has the same role. Some are useful for pressure at close range, while others apply status effects or create opportunities to move around an enemy.
Defeating a boss can change your build
One of the game's best ideas is that a dangerous enemy often shows you the weapon you can claim after defeating them. Hua, Deadly Betrothed, uses the Scarlet Wraithblade, which creates spider lilies that interfere with movement. The White Serpent and Crimson Viper swords offer different attacks that can be mixed together.
That gives players a reason to learn a boss's mechanics beyond simply finishing the fight. A new weapon may make an older encounter easier, or open a blocked path elsewhere in the Wulin. Blue Memory Flowers reveal fragments of the world's past, while exploration can unlock extra health and progress side stories.
Is Phantom Blade Zero too difficult for beginners?
S-Game is offering different difficulty settings rather than forcing every player into one style. Wayfarer is designed for those who mainly want to follow the story. Hellwalker is for players looking for more aggressive enemy behaviour, and Sixty-Six Days is presented as the toughest challenge.
That makes the game more approachable than its intimidating trailers might suggest. Still, the number of defensive tools and weapons means button-mashing is unlikely to carry a player through every encounter.

Donnie Yen's role and the official trailer
Actor and martial-arts filmmaker Donnie Yen has been a creative consultant since 2023. He also provides facial and motion capture for Mó Yuan, an important character connected to Soul's family. S-Game has used his experience to shape the movement and fighting style rather than merely adding a celebrity cameo.
For anyone deciding whether to buy, the useful questions are practical: does your PC meet the developer's performance target, do you prefer exploration mixed with close-quarters fighting, and are you comfortable learning a weapon system over time? Phantom Blade Zero's launch gives players a chance to answer those questions for themselves.
