Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has barely settled in, and Activision is already laying out its first big seasonal update. Season 1 begins November 6, 2026, with new multiplayer maps, a dangerous DMZ facility, more weapons and the first major connection to Warzone.

The headline is not just the size of the roadmap. It is how much of the update is split between day-one content, mid-season additions and a separate Warzone briefing still to come. If you are planning what to play first, those dates matter as much as the new map names.

Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 release date and launch time

Activision lists the Season 1 launch for November 6 at midnight Eastern Time, across supported platforms. The October 28 announcement is the current roadmap, not a confirmation that the new Season 1 maps are playable today. Some pre-season features are already available, including Shipment from October 27.

Warzone receives the same seasonal push, including the announced Hajin and Zodiac maps, with Verdansk and Rebirth Island also in the rotation. Activision has scheduled another Warzone-specific breakdown for November 2. Treat that as a promised update, not information already published in full.

Three multiplayer maps at launch: Backstab, Canyon and Shoot House

Backstab is a snowy, medium-sized 6v6 map with damaged buildings, abandoned vehicles and elevated positions. It looks built for players who rotate between open sightlines and tight interiors. Canyon takes the opposite route, using high rock walls, exposed paths, a river and a cave to create opportunities for flanks.

Shoot House returns as a reimagined 6v6 location set against a snowy North Korean landscape. Veterans will recognise its three-lane structure, but the setting and movement systems have changed. Ministry and Overflow are scheduled for the mid-season update rather than November 6, with further maps still unannounced.

Which new multiplayer modes are coming?

Grind returns at launch: eliminate opponents, collect their dog tags and deliver those tags to a bank to score. Drop Zone is also back, pushing teams to control a rotating objective and collect periodic Killstreak drops. A Gauntlet 1v1 playlist will arrive with the Wager Match event.

There is more before the season starts. Possession is scheduled for October 29, while Infected follows on October 30. Later in the season, Activision plans additional modes including Counter Attack. Its roadmap is clear that not everything lands at once.

DMZ gets the X01 Black Site

The biggest DMZ change is X01, a weapons facility near Hajin. Activision describes a maze of cargo areas, tunnels, underground laboratories and a sealed Deep Vault. Ghost returns as the voice guiding players through fresh Orders, with additional enemies, equipment and extraction risks.

The update also introduces boss-hunting objectives. One asks players to take on a battle tank in Hajin and collect parts across deployments. Another leads into X01 to confront a dangerous commander known as The Captain. Some rewards and threats remain classified in the official briefing, so detailed loot lists circulating before release deserve caution.

New guns, Battle Pass and BlackCell

Two weapons join at the start of Season 1: the Cronen Osprey assault rifle and CSG-35 SMG. Activision lists both through the Battle Pass, with the Osprey at tier 16 and the CSG-35 at tier 36. The JAK 12 shotgun and ZLR Talonhawk melee weapon are planned for later in the season.

The Battle Pass uses a 100-tier linear track with free and paid rewards. Premium buyers are promised more than 50 rewards, while BlackCell adds a separate paid upgrade. The Wager Match event offers in-game prizes, but Activision explicitly says it does not involve cash or items of real-world value.

Watch the official Season 1 trailer

The official trailer gives the best quick look at the new maps, operators and combat pacing. Remember that its footage is promotional material. The published roadmap, not a split-second scene in the trailer, should be the source for the exact launch schedule.

What should players do before November 6?

If you want a head start, use the pre-season playlists to learn weapons and movement before the new maps arrive. Shipment is already listed as available, while Possession and Infected are dated for October 29 and October 30. Save detailed Warzone planning until the November 2 briefing clarifies its own changes.

The stronger story is how Activision is trying to keep several player communities moving at once: core multiplayer, extraction-focused DMZ and free-to-play Warzone. November 6 is the start of that schedule, not the end. Expect further updates before every item on this roadmap becomes available.
