Cyberpunk 2077 has a reason to return to Night City, and it is not another paid expansion. Update 2.5 is a free download that brings characters and music from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 into the game, but the biggest changes are for the people who actually play it. Dual-wielding handguns, console mods, new cyberware appearances and two fresh quests give returning players more to do than watch another anime crossover.

CD PROJEKT RED released the Edgerunners 2 update on October 22, 2026. The publisher says the patch does not require Phantom Liberty or a restart of your existing save. That makes this one of the easier reasons to jump back in after months away.

How to start the new Edgerunners 2 quest

The main crossover quest is called Clampdown. To unlock it, complete The Heist in the main story and finish two gigs for Wakako Okada. Then allow in-game time for a message from the fixer. You do not need to start a new character.

Clampdown takes place before the events of the second Edgerunners series. It connects V with Weak Kingsley and his crew, with a mission inside Night City Prison. The reward path includes an outfit inspired by Weak. The publisher also describes his Coronation revolver as obtainable through the new content.

If you have not seen the anime, the mission works as a spoiler-light introduction. If you have, it fills in an earlier chapter in the crew’s story. The ten-episode series premiered on Netflix on October 20.

How dual-wielding works in Cyberpunk 2077 2.5

The new Double Trouble perk sits in the Cool attribute tree. It lets V use two Power Pistols or Power Revolvers at once. That category restriction matters: a Smart or Tech pistol will not automatically work just because it is a handgun.

For pistol-focused builds, the attraction is obvious. You can keep a mobile, aggressive fighting style without swapping to a rifle whenever a room gets crowded. Double Trouble also has four supporting perks, so it becomes a build choice rather than a cosmetic animation.

The trade-off is that players need to invest in the right perk path. If you previously built V around hacking or blades, check your skill points before expecting to equip two guns straight away.

Glamdocs, new outfits and Photo Mode

There are five Glamdoc vendors around Night City. They sell appearances for arm cyberware, including Gorilla Arms, Mantis Blades, Monowire and the Projectile Launch System. CD PROJEKT RED says the update adds dozens of styles, with colours and decals that can be customised further.

Clothing shops also received new outfit sets, and Photo Mode now has dual-wielding poses and Cyberpunk Trading Card Game frames. None of this changes how your implants perform in a fight. The point is giving players more control over what their version of V looks like.

Console mod support is the bigger long-term change

Update 2.5 adds an in-game Mods panel using mod.io, with selected community-made content available on PC, Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. That is not the same as allowing every PC mod on a console. Creators must provide compatible versions, and the supported catalogue will grow over time.

One warning is worth taking seriously: on consoles, achievements and trophies cannot be earned while playing from a modded save. If that matters to you, preserve a clean save before experimenting. Console players also get a field-of-view slider, something many had asked for since launch.

Two more quests, better menus and a performance update

Welcome to Paradise is another new quest. It unlocks after The Heist and at least 15 Street Cred, and takes players on a narrated tour of Night City’s history. There are also 12 additional Minor Arcana tarot cards, each tied to a new collectible hunt.

The practical improvements matter just as much. Saves are grouped by playthrough, stash filters make equipment easier to find, and the patch adds DLSS 4.5 support on suitable hardware alongside further rendering and ray-tracing fixes. These are supported features, not a claim that every PC will suddenly run the game faster.

The studio’s announcement says the update is available on current-generation consoles, PC and supported Mac storefronts. The old PS4 and Xbox One builds do not receive this patch. For the exact release status of Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store build, check your platform listing; publisher pages posted around launch use different rollout wording.

The strongest reason to return is not a single quest or outfit. It is that CD PROJEKT RED has made Night City more flexible for players who finished the main story years ago. The game now offers a new fighting style and a supported path for community mods without buying another expansion.
