If game audio drops when you join voice chat, first check whether it happens when the call connects or only when the microphone turns on. That distinction helps separate a volume change from a headset-routing problem.
Test in a training area, use one voice channel and change one setting at a time. Phone software, the game and the headset can all affect the result.
First, test without the call
Open the game with your usual headphones and listen in a training area. Check effects, music and in-game voice separately. If the sound is already wrong, start with the game or headset settings rather than the calling app.
Now join the call. Did the game get quieter as soon as it connected? Did the sound change only when the microphone switched on? Make a note of that difference before adjusting anything.
Why Android can change the sound
Android uses audio focus to coordinate apps that play sound. Depending on the focus request and Android version, another app may lower its volume, fade out or pause. Google calls a temporary volume reduction “ducking”.
A call can also change the audio route used by a Bluetooth headset. Volume reduction and a change in sound quality can feel similar, but they are not necessarily the same problem.
The result depends on the phone, software, game, calling app and audio device. There is no single setting that fixes every combination. Google's Android audio-focus documentation explains how the system handles competing playback.
Try one change at a time
Check the game’s volume controls
If the game has separate sliders, lower background music before raising everything else. Keep sound effects and teammate voice at a comfortable level. Increasing the phone’s volume may make both louder without improving the balance.
Use one voice channel
Choose either the game’s team voice or the squad’s external call. Running both can make it harder to tell which app is using the microphone or changing the sound. Leave the unused call rather than just lowering its volume.
Compare the speaker and headphones
Try the same short session on the phone speaker, then with your normal headphones. If the problem appears only with Bluetooth, compare a wired headset if you have one. This test helps identify the affected route; it does not prove the earbuds are faulty.
Check microphone access
If teammates cannot hear you, check the app’s microphone permission and the phone’s microphone privacy control. Close other active calls or recordings. Changing game volume will not fix a blocked microphone.
Reconnect once
Leave the voice room, end other calls, then rejoin with the game open. If that helps, note which apps were running so you can repeat the setup. Avoid changing several settings together—you will not know which one made a difference.
Using BytePlay’s Game Priority mode
Supported Android app builds offer Game Priority for squad voice. Select it before joining, then check that the room reports it as active. If it is unavailable or falls back to normal voice, treat that as the current mode.
Try your actual phone, game and headphones before a ranked match. The mode does not establish that every device will keep the same game volume or audio quality. Browser voice should not be assumed to use the native Android audio path.
A short pre-match check
Ask a teammate to confirm your microphone is clear. Listen to movement and effects in a training area while they speak. Adjust the balance once, then leave it alone for the test. If something changes after a phone or headset update, repeat the same check.
If you report a problem, include your phone model, Android version, app version, game and headset type. Say whether it happens on speaker as well. That is more useful than “audio broken”.
Does the same advice apply on iPhone?
Comparing routes and checking game volume can still help, but iOS manages audio differently. iOS version is in production and will be launched with advanced voice control features and Game Priority features. Watch this Space for updates on Apple Devices. Use the options shown in the version you have.
