Crypto mains have spent years flying a drone while the rest of the squad takes the fight. Apex Legends: Cipher wants to change that. In EA’s October 29 reveal, Crypto gets a battery-powered drone, a new Sentry Mode and a faster way to use his EMP. He is not the only legend getting attention.
Akimbo Wingman pistols, high-risk Strongholds, new Diamond-and-above ranked bans, Revenant and Lifeline buffs, and a rebuilt Kings Canyon planned for the next season are all in the announcement. This is a look at what EA has confirmed, not a claim that every change is already live in Indian servers.
Apex Legends Cipher: what is actually new?
Crypto: a drone that runs on batteries, can be moved without waiting through a normal cooldown, and can be left in Sentry Mode to mark enemies. His EMP can be activated with a button press.
Weapons and loot: two Wingman revolvers can be dual-wielded. Strongholds contain high-value gear, corrupted attachments and EVO but trigger an alarm when opened.
Ranked: players in Diamond lobbies and above vote on Legend bans. A heavily voted legend has a higher chance of being removed from that match; the vote does not automatically guarantee the ban.
Legends: Revenant gets faster offensive options, while Lifeline gains shorter cooldowns and new survival upgrades. Season 32: Kings Canyon Evolved and a larger ranked rework are planned for early 2027.
Crypto can scout without abandoning his team
The biggest change is not simply a stronger EMP. EA says Crypto’s Surveillance Drone now uses batteries rather than the previous cooldown system. He can place it, move with the squad and use Sentry Mode to tag opponents who pass through its view. The reworked EMP can be triggered directly.
That changes the decision in a common three-player fight. Instead of making his teammates wait while he looks for an angle, Crypto can prepare a drone, join the push and use the information during the exchange. The official notes do not publish every battery value or exact balance number, so claims about the final best loadout would be premature.

If you normally fill the recon role, the practical question is how long the drone can hold a useful position before an enemy destroys it. A drone that marks opponents is helpful only if the team is close enough to act on the information.
Akimbo Wingman and the Strongholds risk
The Wingman has always rewarded accuracy. Cipher adds a dual-wield version, letting players carry a revolver in each hand. EA has shown the feature in action but has not provided a full damage comparison in the announcement. Expect players to test it in the firing range before declaring it the new meta.

Strongholds are more interesting for squad leaders. They replace the quiet idea of opening a loot box with a noisy decision. These sites can pay out crate weapons, attachments and EVO, but opening one takes time and sends an alarm that nearby squads can hear. Cover and Hardlight are available to help the team defend the position.
Picture a ranked squad on the edge of zone. You can take the Stronghold and gain stronger equipment, but every team nearby now knows where you are. Leaving it unopened may be the safer rotation. Cipher is placing a real choice between loot and positioning.

Ranked bans will force Diamond squads to prepare backups
In Diamond and higher lobbies, each player gets one vote toward a Legend ban. More votes increase a Legend’s chance of being banned. This is not a guaranteed one-vote removal, and EA has not given the full probability formula in this overview.
For a serious ranked trio, the lesson is straightforward: practise a second lineup. If Crypto or another preferred legend is removed, a team that only knows one setup will have to rebuild its plan during selection. That could matter more than one weapon buff for players chasing Master or Predator.

Revenant and Lifeline: one wants a fight, the other keeps it going
Revenant receives a shorter Ultimate cooldown and a faster Tactical. His new upgrades can extend his Ultimate after a knock, silence nearby enemies following Shadow Pounce, or refresh the movement ability while an enemy is marked. The idea is to reward a clean, aggressive entry.
Lifeline’s D.O.C. cooldown is being reduced, and she gains self-healing while gliding. New upgrade choices support faster Ultimate access, a revive shield or improved flight movement. A confident revive under cover may save a fight, but these changes do not mean every revive becomes impossible to punish.

Kings Canyon Evolved is planned for 2027
EA also gave players a reason to look beyond the current season. Kings Canyon Evolved is the planned major map update for Season 32 in early 2027, with reworked and remixed points of interest. The season page separately says a major ranked overhaul is in development for Season 32.

A new Mythic Volt SMG called Cryptic Core and Cipher Seasonal Packs are also part of the season. EA says pack availability varies by region. Indian players should check the offer shown in their own client instead of assuming that every international store screenshot applies to them.
Where to watch and play from India
Apex Legends is free to play on PC through Steam, Epic Games Store and the EA app, and on supported PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch systems. EA’s official gameplay trailer shows Cipher in motion; the written notes are better for checking exactly what has been announced.
For players returning after a break, start with three things: learn Crypto’s updated drone control, try Wingman handling, and keep an alternate ranked composition ready. The rest will be decided when the changes meet real players, real ping and real endgame circles.
